>>Abington is a collection of many community neighborhoods nestled between Philadelphia and Willow Grove. It is a great place to live, worship and work.
On September 25, 1899 the name >>Bryn Athyn was formally adopted and the village community of Bryn Athyn entered the twentieth century with a name and identity which symbolized the ultimate objective of its inhabitants to live in harmony with each other. “Bryn Athyn” means “hill of cohesion.” The decision to incorporate Bryn Athyn from a village to a borough was finalized in February 1916.
>>Cheltenham Township is located in eastern Montgomery County just 20 minutes from Center City, Philadelphia. Cheltenham encompasses over 37,000 residents of diverse talents, professions and ethnicities who value beautiful neighborhoods, abundant parks, top-rated schools and convenient shopping districts.
Fifteen Quakers founded the community in the 1600s, bringing the name Cheltenham from Gloucestershire, England. Initially a farming community, the area matured into a mill town of industrial prominence after the mid-1800s, acquired numerous millionaire estates around the 1900s, and eventually evolved into today’s residential community.
The First Class Township provides top-notch police, fire and emergency medical services; four neighborhood libraries; extensive recreation opportunities; weekly refuse and recycling collection and a wealth of other valuable municipal services.
The Borough of >>Jenkintown is a mostly residential neighborhood with a commercial district through its center. Jenkintown is bordered by Abington Township to the north and Cheltenham Township to the south.
The Council of the Borough of Jenkintown has recently approved a Revitalization Plan that includes streetscapes, façade upgrades, traffic calming, and other improvements. This is part of an overall effort to attract new businesses and residents to the Borough. Jenkintown would like to build on its past as a destination point for shopping and living in order to create a vibrant future.
Moreland Township was established in 1862 and was divided in two in 1917. At the time,
>>Lower Moreland was primarily a small rural community. Like many Montgomery County communities, this area underwent a great deal of residential development in the post World War II era. Today while little land is available for development, the township has quality housing and shopping opportunities. The township contains: Bethayres, Huntingdon Valley and Philmont. Located in the northeastern section of Montgomery County, Lower Moreland shares boundaries with both Bucks and Philadelphia Counties.
>>Upper Moreland Township is principally a middle income residential suburb of Philadelphia with a commercial area located in the unincorporated community of Willow Grove. Office and industrial development has taken place in the Willow Grove Industrial and Office Center located adjacent to the Willow Grove Interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which passes through the Township. The Township covers an area of 7.5 square miles and presently has a population of 24,993.
>>Rockledge Borough is a small, close-knit community with a small but thriving business district. There is a lot of pride and community spirit in this small borough.
>>Springfield Township was William Penn’s gift to his first wife, Gulielma Maria Springett Penn. “Gulielma Maria Penn’s Mannor of Springfield” was first designated on a map in 1681 and this date is prominently displayed on the official Township Seal. Springfield was incorporated as a First Class Township in 1901 and is further organized under the council-manager form of government.
The primary commercial areas are located along Bethlehem Pike in the villages of Erdenheim and Flourtown and smaller industrial pockets in Oreland and Wyndmoor.
Springfield Township provides a full range of municipal services including police protection, refuse and recycling collection, sewage conveyance, highway maintenance, recreational activities, programs and park areas, economic development initiatives, zoning, code enforcement, and building inspection.
The Springfield Township Government exists to provide for the health, safety and welfare, quality of life and common good of the Springfield Township Community. At all times, the government shall be open, fair, sensitive, responsive, innovative, accountable, effective, efficient and protect the rights and dignity of its people.
What is now >>Upper Dublin Township was originally part of a 1684 land grant from William Penn called “Dublin”. The population grew around the settlements of Fitzwatertown, Dreshertown, Jarrettown, Maple Glen, Three Tuns and Rose Valley. One of the most important historical buildings in the township is the Emlen House on Pennsylvania Avenue near Camphill Road. George Washington had his headquarters there during a skirmish with the British in late 1777 before he moved his army on to Valley Forge.
